Join ABCD Northeast Ohio for a presentation by Eric Dues regarding the repair of the SUM-82 bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. This meeting will qualify for 1.0 PDH credit.

The SUM-82 structure, a 5 spandrel arch bridge (181.25’ spans) carrying SUM 82 over Cuyahoga Valley National Park, required both superficial and structural repairs. ODOT District 4 designed routine improvements, though limited site access complicated bidding. The project combined traditional patching, fiber wrapping, and galvanic anodes with unique strengthening details. During construction, a critical defect in Column 58S forced a full bridge closure on the first day of OTEC 2025. The issue was repaired using existing methods and simple new details to redistribute longitudinal forces. Eric will discuss the repair strategies, site challenges, and cold weather techniques needed to strengthen Column 58S and re-open a large bridge across a valley.
